說到“電”我們第一個想到的就是“electricity”，但是生活中更經常用到的是“power”這個詞，而停電的停，也不能用“stop”這個詞來表示 。

這個表達比較正式 。
例如：
社區公告明天下午一點到五點要停電，
他們會說
"There will be a power outage from 1pm to 5pm tomorrow."
power failure

power cut
Power cut 與power failure用法相似，不同點在于Power failure 是非人為因素的停電，可能是因天氣，雷電等，造成的停電，或者供電設備故障
power cut是人為的切斷電源供應 。

電力公司說停電至少波及到了全國上下一百萬人 。
當然類似out of power, go off, blackout的表達也是可以的

“電”有一個俚語的講法，是“juice”
沒錯，就是“果汁”這個單詞 。
如果你在電燈開關旁邊看到一個

【關于停電的英語說法】
1. The power is off. 停電了 。
"The power is off." 、"The power is gone." 或是 "There is a power outage." 這三句都是停電了 。其中前兩句是比較口語的說法，例如看到電燈突然熄掉了，老美的第一個反應就是 "Oh! The power is gone."，或是 "The power is off." 而第三句的 power outage 則是用在比較正式的場合上，例如社區公告明天下午一點到五點要停電，他們會說 "There will be a power outage from 1pm to 5pm tomorrow."
這里要提醒大家注意一下，一般我們想到“電”都會很自然地想到 electricity 這個字，但這個字在使用上比較局限于正式的場合 。比方說你新搬到一間房子，電還沒接上，你就可以提醒房東說 "There is no electricity in my house." 。
但是在日常生活當中遇到的大多數情況都是用 power 而非 electricity 。比方說請別人把電關了，比較常聽到的是 "Please turn off the power." 而不是 "Please turn off the electricity." 。還有一些常把 electricity 和 power 搞混的地方，比方像發電廠是 power plant 而非 electricity plant，電線是 power line 而非 electricity line 。
另外“電力”有一個比較俚語的講法，叫 juice，跟“果汁”是同一個詞 。“省電”就可以說成"Save the juice"。
2. The power is back on. 來電了 。
知道了停電的說法，那來電了要怎么說?很簡單，就是 "The power is back." 或是 "The power is back on." 大家注意一下為什么會說成 back on 呢?因為這是指原來開著的(on)，后來關掉了，再把它打開的意思 。back on 就是說再回到 on 的狀態 。
也許大家已經注意到了，老美對于某樣電器用品是開著或是關著的，會很簡單地用 on 跟 off 來形容，比方說 "The TV is on." 意思就是“電視是開著的” ?；蚴?quot;I cannot see anything because the light is off." 就是“因為燈是關著的，所以我什么都看不到 。” 記得在這里on 跟 off 就完全足以表達你的意思，再講些其它的話都是多余的 。
3. Please turn off the power. 請把電源關掉 。
Turn on 跟 turn off 算是最常見的把電源打開和關上的字眼了 。例如你可以說 "Could you help me turn on the microwave? (能不能幫我打開微波爐?)" 或是 "Please turn off the power before you leave. (請在離開前把電源關掉 。)" Turn on 和 turn off 是一對很好用的短語，務必熟記 。
但是如果今天換成另一種情況，我想說“不要關掉，讓它一直開著 。”這句話要怎么講呢?很簡單，你可以說 leave the power on 或是再偷懶一點說 leave it on 。比方你回家前可以交代同事 "Just leave the printer on when you leave. (你們走的時候不要關掉打印機，讓它一直開著好了 。)"
4. The power is running low. 快要沒電了 。
電快要用完了叫 running low，例如你使用的刮胡刀看它越轉越慢，你知道電快沒了，你就可以說 "The power is running low." 或是 "The battery is running low." 要是電已經完全用光了，則可以說，"It's running out of power." 或是直接了當地說，"The battery is dead. (這個電池掛了 。)"
其實以上的這些講法不只局限于電，幾乎所有的東西快用完了，我們都可以用 be running low 或是 be running out of 這兩個短語 。比方說茶壺的水快喝完了，你就可以說 "The water is running low." 或是 "We are running out of water."
